Truk Lagoon

Truk Lagoon

February, 2025

Truk Lagoon (aka Chuuk Lagoon), is an atoll in the central Pacific, approximately 1,118 miles northwest of Papua New Guinea. This lagoon is famous for the insane amount of wrecks it contains. During World War II, Truk Lagoon was a Japanese stronghold and the main jumping off point for many of its Pacific campaigns. It was also the base for much of the Japanese fleet. During 1944 and 1945, the United States and its allies bombed Japanese facilities and vessels in Truk Lagoon, sinking more that 50 ships and destroying over 400 aircraft.
